Shooting my age, totally delusional?
Merriam-Webster defines delusional as something that is falsely or delusively believed or propagated; as in believing “they will finish on schedule” or in the case of shooting one’s age; “delusions of grandeur”. And, I must admit the first few times I had the thought of “How cool it would be to shoot my age”, the next thought was “YOU ARE TOTALLY NUTS”.
However, as I am now in the mid seventies age bracket, perhaps “delusional moments of grandeur” can turn into reality. Now, way back while playing to a plus 3 or better, I did shoot mid seventies or better most of the time, the only problem, I was in my late 20s and early 30s, so technically it did not count. Such is life! That being said, before Covid-19 lock down, the last two times I teed it up, I shot a 78 for 18, and was one over thru 14 holes when a “Shotgun format” league started and ended my round. So, in moments of grandeur, those scores start me thinking “Well, just maybe”.
OK, granted, the game is not there, yet ! 76 is the number, which means being 74, I have a few months (19) before the meter starts, then another 12 to reach my goal. Delusional? Maybe, maybe not, only time will tell if I am able to “finish on schedule”.
